Me? I'm just going to claim I got the info from a certain elder I used to know.
LOL!
i was called an apostate because i knew the "new arrangement" before it was announced.
this is so funny because this change directly affects how the local elders were screwing me over.
pm me if you're interested in details.. brzfst.

i've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.
Hence, confirmation bias.
Malkiel - I would like to know what you think of the book I recommended if you read it. Please let me know. Thanks.
All the best.
i mean seriously friends... what difference does this announcement make to the grand scheme of things?.
yes, it may be a huge change to the way they do things, but what effect will it really have?.
it is not like we can use it against them to prove that they are not a ucked fup horrible mind controlling cult.
How can anyone say this isn't a major change? For how long have JW's had meetings every other day of the working week? And for those of us with families still in, it's very important as it directly affects them and their indoctrination. As for boredom, If you don't want to read about it don't click the threads.
By the way, this isn't the first thread about being bored with the BS topics either. :P
when i first heard the book study rumor, i figured there was a great chance it was just someone's speculation, and everyone running with it.
i told my wife, and given the huge news, i was skeptical, and really hoped it wasn't all a lie.
then i hear of people who have talked to po's, elders, and even saw a letter (which i hoped wasn't fabricated).
And now we've got their attention, maybe we should tell them that we've read that the FDS is announcing Armageddon next. (Date T.B.C., though.)
Ok I've made up my mind I am not going back.
Congratulations. Enjoy life.
If there is a Armageddon, Bring it on!
Please, please, please read at least chapter four of this book:
How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature - Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference, and What It Means for Faith Today by Steven L. McKenzie.
It's liberating to find out what people who study the bible for a job have found out about the literature in the bible. Daniel was intended to provide hope for the Jews under oppresion from Greece, and Revelation to encourage Christians under the Roman empire. But don't take my word for it; see some of the evidence yourself.
If you have any fear of Armageddon left AT ALL, read this book. Now.
Advice over.
i wasn't able to get a copy of the letter off the information board but here is the exact text of the letter that was read at our english meeting today.. to be read at the conclusion of the watchtower study of the week of april 21 - 27, 2008 from the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.
to all congregations:.
dear brothers,.
Thanks.
the recent post about dolls has me picturing other conversations that parents could be having with with their young, impressionable children.. here's my own little scene inspired by the june wt.. (timmy is playing with his toy car).
dad: what kind of car do you have there, timmy?.
timmy: it's a super fast red porsche!.
From my experience, when I wasn't quite so young:
Father: What's that you're playing?
Me: Deus Ex.
Father: Hmm, it doesn't look too good. Has it got shooting in it?
Me: Yes.
Father: Well you know we don't like you playing games like that. Can you not find something better to play?
Me: But you watch films with shooting in.
come on guys - we're over in the us and bluesbrother seems to be the only one who has commented on the reaction to the announcement in the uk.
any other reactions from the friends?
surely you've all had your meetings by now?.
:) But you didn't call them that when you were over here, did you?
i'm from the uk and i'd be interested to get your opinions on the videos and dvds that the society has produced.
not opinions on the content as such (i think i know that already), but on the style and the quality of production.
speaking as a brit, i found them incredibly corny/cheesy when i was a witness.
My Gran liked the Noah video. Her eyesight was terrible.

Speaking as a Brit, I found them incredibly corny/cheesy when I was a Witness. The acting was hammy, and the responses seemed so artifical. What about you Americans? Did you view them as okay?
